Only 6 months or so since I last posted. I guess it's about time to update things. The wonderful job I was raving about in my last post remained fabulous. I loved every day of it, no kidding. Unfortunately, it was contract work and after 15 months of increasingly more difficult approvals to extend the contract, it came to an end. Not me, not my manager, not my department manager, it came from on high, the invisible people in Houston decided not to risk the wrath of the Powers That Be and keep me over the statutory 1 year test mark. (A bit late, I was already over by 3 months.) So with superb reviews and the best wishes in the world, the good times at KBR ended. I was terrified and profoundly depressed at the thought of job hunting. Nightmare, soul-destroying. Loathsome. And then the fates smiled on me. In only 3 weeks time and with only 3 interviews, I managed to find a new and even better job. Three was the charm, at my third interview they made me the dream job offer. Oh my god, I am happy. Start work tomorrow morning. Did I mention it's in a great neighborhood of central London called The City? Did I mention it's a big increase over the insanely generous salary I made previously? Finally I will be able to pay off all my debt quickly and get on with saving for a house. Current Mood: excited | | Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 | | 10:14 am |
Did I mention I have a job?
Mea Culpa - I post reasonably regularly on my blogspot blog but I always forget this place. So, last October out of the blue I get a phone call asking if I was still iavailable to work. I had not applied to work for them but a internet friend worked for their Houston branch and offered to send in my CV to their HR dept with a recommendation that I was fabulous and their London UK branch should check me out. Nothing happened after that so I shugged and moved on. Four months later - Oct 2006 I get a call from them and 45 minutes later I had a fantastic new job with a dream salary. I was a happy bunny. Know what? This company and this job are still so great, I still love them and I'm still a happy bunny. Oh yes, I just bought a Mazda MX5 convertible. | | Wednesday, January 19th, 2005 | | 6:32 pm |
Not bad, only about 18 months or even less since I last posted here. I'm currently job hunting. Blech. | | Wednesday, August 6th, 2003 | | 7:56 pm |
science fiction meet up
Last night I decided to actually follow thru and get out and do something social in New York. So I went to what was supposed to be a meet up of NY science fiction/fantasy readers. Meetingplace was Borders on 2nd 31st street. Pah! I guess the rainstorms kept most away or apathy or whatever. Only two of us showed up. It was ok talking to this guy and we took the bus to the subway together afterward. But he was basically not terribly interesting. He's a sys admin and he likes to read fantasy series books - even books based on games. That says it all. | | Saturday, July 26th, 2003 | | 3:48 pm |
I suppose I need a first entry of some sort to get this started. I'm at work today. Mad, I know. But I've work that needs attention while it's quiet. No phone calls, no interruptions. |
